Am I a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?

The CoolSculpting fat reduction procedure is specially designed for those who have unwanted fat that resists diet and exercise. Unlike gastric bypass surgery, the CoolSculpting procedure is not a weight loss solution for people who are obese. It is, however, a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. Good candidates have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of.

Patients MUST be under a BMI of 30 to be considered a candidate for CoolSculpting.

A Few More CoolSculpting FAQs

Q: Where does the fat go?

A: Once the fat cells are treated, they are naturally processed and eliminated from the body.

Q: Is the CoolSculpting procedure safe?

A: The Cool Sculpting procedure is FDA cleared for the flanks (love handles), abdomen, inner and outer thighs, upper back (bra fat), back fat, upper arm, under the buttocks (banana roll), submental (under the chin), and submandibular (under the jawline) areas.

It is also cleared to affect the appearance of lax tissue with the submental area treatments.

With over 8 million Cool Sculpting procedures in over 70 countries worldwide, it is proven to be a safe and effective treatment for nonsurgical fat reduction.

Q: Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?

A: Yes, you can. The CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Some patients experience redness, minor bruising, tingling, numbness or discomfort in the treated area, but this usually resolves in a short time. Often times, patients return to work after their CoolSculpting session is over.

Q: Why go to a board-certified plastic surgeon for CoolSculpting?

Our office is very experienced at the evaluation and treatment of contour issues all over the body. We can offer many different modalities, depending on your individual issue. Modalities include; Liposuction, Surgical removal of Fat/Skin (Tummy Tuck, Brachioplasty, etc.), along with CoolSculpting. Get the correct modality for your individual situation and goals.

Q: Does CoolSculpting tighten skin?

A: Recent studies suggest CoolSculpting modestly tightens skin in the treated areas. However, this is not guaranteed in all cases. Results develop gradually over the course of a couple of months, giving your skin time to adapt and contract as you slim down. It’s unlikely you’ll be left with loose or saggy skin after a treatment.

Q: How long does numbness last after CoolSculpting?

A: Numbness sets in during the treatment itself and may linger for a while afterward. It’s normal to have some change in skin sensation for 1 to 3 weeks, but this should resolve naturally on its own.

Q: How long does it take to see CoolSculpting results?

A: It takes between 1 and 3 months to see the extent of your CoolSculpting results. You’ll notice some gradual slimming taking place in your treated area during that time. Many people find this timeline is a bonus as it disguises the fact they’ve had any “work done.”

Q: Does CoolSculpting get rid of cellulite?

A: There is some evidence that suggests CoolSculpting treatments improve the appearance of cellulite. However, this isn’t a guaranteed effect and shouldn’t be the primary reason you pursue the treatment. CoolSculpting primarily targets fat cells, not the fibrous bands in the connective tissue that cause cellulite.

Q: Do you lose weight with CoolSculpting?

A: CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure. It’s possible you may lose a couple of pounds from the treatment, but most of the benefits you’ll enjoy are cosmetic and shape related.

Q: How much fat does CoolSculpting remove?

A: CoolSculpting is clinically proven to remove as much as 25% of the fat in a treated area in one session. Each additional session removes up to 25% of the remaining fat. The actual amount of fat that translates to varies by the size of the treated area.
