Ear Reshaping (Otoplasty)

Otoplasty, (Ear Reshaping or Ear Pinning) is a surgical procedure that pins back the protruding ears, thus creating a more normal appearance. The incisions are made behind the ears, leaving no visible incisions in the front. Scars usually heal well and are not readily noticeable.

Dr. Roth will first listen to your concerns and goals. He will then gather a thorough medical history. Past medical events may impact your surgery, anesthesia, and recovery. Current issues such as; medications, herbal remedies, allergies, smoking, drug use, bleeding and scarring tendencies, will be reviewed. Chronic issues, (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, auto immune disease), are also important.

Frequently Asked Questions

My ear sticks out away from my head. What can be done?

It sounds like you may be a candidate for an Otoplasty, (Ear Pinning).  This procedure reshapes the structures of the ear to resemble a more normal appearance.

Where will the scar be? Is it really noticeable?

The scar in this area normally heals well in most patients. The scar is hidden behind the ear.

I have torn earlobes, when can I wear earrings again?

While not really a question about a classic Otoplasty, this problem can usually be repaired. After repair, you should hold off on further ear piercing for least three  months. This will allow the ears to heal properly. The new piercing should not be where the repair was.  It is also better not to resume wearing large, heavy earrings.
