  • Dr. Roth named Top 10 social media influencers in plastic surgery according to Klout!

    Tue, January 17, 2012 2:37 pm MDT

Klout is a tool that was designed to help measure influence online.  They score your influence on a scale of 1 to 100 based on your true reach (how many people you influence), your amplification (how much you influence people), and your network (the influence of people in your true reach).  While the verdict is still out on the true value/credibility of a Klout score, we are happy to introduce the top ten social media influencers in plastic surgery.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery - The official twitter account of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery posts regularly on topics from it’s own website as well as news outlets around the world. The society appears to also heavily retweet it’s surgeons and their comments about the industry.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons - The official twitter account of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. They tweet plastic surgery news from their own online properties as well as news outlets from around the world and frequently takes advantage of the #PlasticSurgery tag.

The Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery - The Official Twitter of the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Surprisingly all of their content is self promotional and focuses solely on their publications. They regularly share their editors picks, most shared articles, and recent articles from their current issues.

Jeffrey Kenkel, MD – A Dallas plastic surgeon that tweets not only about plastic surgery, but health in general. His twitter stream is peppered with personal anecdotes about what he’ s doing or where he’s been and includes content being shared on his Facebook page.

Jennifer Walden, MD – New York plastic surgeon turned Austin, TX plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden blogs at www.celebrityplasticsurgeryblog.com and shares regular updates about plastic surgery from various news outlets. Because of her regular media attention, Walden also shares content from the various news and television outlets she is featured on such as Access Hollywood and Fox News. She also regularly tweets mentions on twitter from her patients.

    J. Vicente Poblete, MD – Dr. Poblete is an Ohio plastic surgeon who shares content related the plastic and cosmetic surgery realm from a variety of sources including his own blog. The one thing I found interesting about Dr. Poblete is that his avatar on Twitter is a female. I initially thought that perhaps it was the doctor until I saw that the woman was used as part of his twitter background. I wonder if this hurts or helps his twitter engagement and creates any confusion for potential patients who may think they are engaging a woman?

Project Beauty – A second top ten account from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Project Beauty was designed to become a destination for consumers interested in self-improvement. Regularly producing fresh content about current trends and helpful tips, most of Project Beauty’s social presence revolves around their content and their regularly featured contests.

Jeffrey Roth, MD – A Las Vegas plastic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Roth is the first account in the top ten list that appears to mix business with pleasure. Sharing content on a variety of topics ranging from plastic surgery to interests and current events, Dr. Roth gives insight into his profession and his personality. From birthday shout outs to boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao to retweeting jokes about the Kardashian’s there is a little something for everyone in Dr. Roth’s twitter stream.

RealSelf – The Seattle based plastic surgery community website shares information and news about cosmetic surgery trends and happenings. In addition to sharing insight with consumers they appear to engage doctors as well as patients about their procedures and experiences as a means of building community and providing assistance to consumers.

Elizabeth S. Lee, MD – A female plastic surgeon from Berkley, CA, Dr. Lee is another surgeon that mixes business with pleasure and really let’s her personality shine through in her tweets. While her Facebook Page focuses primarily on her practice and it’s current events and specialist, her time on Twitter is spent mostly engaging with friends, colleagues and peers. Dr. Lee tweets more personality than plastic surgery. The tweet below was among one of my favorites.
