Increase in Botox and Breast Implant Procedures Indicates Economic Recovery

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal observes that those in higher socio-economic groups are feeling more confident about the economy. They are demonstrating this with increased consumption of jewelry, couture and elective cosmetic surgery procedures.
“That rebound in demand has boosted Allergan, which generates roughly a third of its revenue from aesthetic-related products, including Botox, breast implants and Latisse, a new treatment that stimulates eyelash growth. Allergan's breast-implant revenue, which suffered hard in the crisis, rose 10% last quarter. Total Botox sales, of which half are cosmetic related, rose 4%.”
The article further states that “expectations look high” in the plastic and cosmetic surgery industry.
One hopes that the increase of cosmetic surgery among the wealthy is a harbinger of good news for the rest of the U.S. economy.
